Message from Robert Tomlinson Chief Operating Officer and Founder of California Association of Neighborhood Watch

CANWA has been active serving the Sherman Oaks area with Neighborhood Security and Life Safety focus since April of 2017. Our goal has always been to provide the neighborhood one neighbor at a time connecting those members to provide strength in numbers.

We are happy to say that with congruent signage and consistent patrols we have seen measured results in a decrease in property crime overall and a increase level of community bonding.

 

Our camera program using inferred and latest technology of VIN readers allows our monitors to cross reference plates to vehicle plate ID.  This double checking at a moments notice to unknown vehicles allows us to recognize inconsistencies quickly. Following up with patrol dispatch and LAPD notifications.

 

We also provide a home health security check up for the members to harden their homes as a potential target for burglaries. Our recommendations are based on over 10 years of being in the electronic security industry attending the ISC West Conference for the past 10 years gaining valuable knowledge on the latest and greatest technological advancements.

 

We also advise the neighborhood on simple safety tips from situational awareness in and out of the home. Fire safety, from smoke detector battery changes to proper brush clearance, to evacuation measures, along with earthquake preparedness.

 

My background in high rise fire training with the of Reno-Tahoe Fire Department in Carson City and the wildfire training with the Chilao Hot Shots has my office focused on prevention and evacuation. Many of the neighborhoods we service live in the Santa Monica Mountain Range. This urban interface with nature is wonderful and we teach mindfulness and caution about the most fundamental issues.

 

The Los Angeles Police Department Awarded my office with a Certificate for successfully completing the Community Police Academy training. This has given me a tremendous insight to the workings of the LAPD whom we interface with on a regular basis.  

 

The dedicated hard-working men and women of this very complex department has given me a newfound respect for all the components working in tandem to Protect and Serve the many diverse communities of Los Angeles. CANWA Salutes them.

 

Our goal for each family is to maximize thriving enjoyment to live work and play safely in and out of the home. We embrace all comments, questions and suggestions to grow with the neighbors in a positive direction to live life to its fullest.
